So what is Babylon? What is it that Rastafari people call Babylon?

For those who are new to the faith of the Rastafari, this provides a basic definition of what we, as Rastafari men and women, mean when we refer to Babylon.

You may have come across the notion of "living in a Babylon system". This can be widely interpreted but the author(s) of this blog can provide their definition and some knowledge regarding this phenomenon.

The Babylon system is any capitalist, colonialist system which exerts undue and disproportionate levels of power and influence over the day-to-day lives of humans.

This is our best explanation of the usage of the term Babylon when referring to the social and political aspects and powers which have oppressed humans in general for long lengths of time. If you are inna Jamaica and hear someone yell "run, Babylon!" this is likely in reference to the presence of police officers. We do not like the presence of oppressive regimes or oppression and corruption in general.

Some may argue that capitalist countries have a Babylon system inherently. It would not be much of a leap to believe this, in fact. Capitalism fails because humans tend to be selfish, and large sums of money allows for influence and power to be held by few. Income gaps in capitalism prove that the system is inherently flawed. Philosophically, one can prove the inherent flaws of capitalism relatively easily, as demonstrated below:
  1. Large sums of money means power and influence
  2. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
  3. Therefore, capitalism lends itself to corruption and thus the formation of a Babylon system.
This argument is created on the merits of my philosophical education, and contains no fallacious clauses; thus, we can see that it is logically sound until proven otherwise. If you disagree, feel free to email df1997fg7@gmail.com to give your opinion.

Rastafari are obligated under 1 Peter 3:15 to provide reason for belief in their faith and this argument will aid us in doing this; therefore, I allow re-post of my argument with link to my page in order to further enlighten those who have not yet discovered our faith.

  1. I don't make a dollar spreading the word of Jah; furthermore, on this blog I provide methods of creating income for Rastafari men and women, so if you enjoy the content please follow this blog.
